The History of Dance Associates
Dance Associates is a service organization committed to children. Since 1974, we have been providing quality dance and gymnastics classes in Austin with a creative and developmental approach in our Community Outreach and Studio Programs. Our Community Outreach Program provides classes onsite at Private Schools, Childcare Centers, Recreation Centers, Community Schools, and Community Enrichment classes to students in the Austin area. Our Studio Program provides students with an in-depth movement education in a professional environment. Our staff of instructors are trained and certified in Dance Associates’ specially designed curriculum “The Skilled Arts Program” (copyright 1986) which has been carefully collected and updated based on the newest research in child development and education.

Our Mission
Dance Associates is a network of highly motivated educators who consciously choose to broaden the scope of dance and gymnastics instruction. Our nurturing approach to teaching begins with a genuine love and concern for the members of our staff that teach, inspire, and nurture the student’s ”self”. In a positive, and non-competitive environment, students discover the joy of movement and their own creativity. Our vision is to be educational catalysts that promote happy, healthy adults: physically, mentally, and emotionally. It is our hope that by helping the students discover their fullest potential within the classroom, they will carry forth these tools to every aspect of their lives.

Dance Associates’ Special Approach to Teaching Children
It is because of our sincere love for children that we at Dance Associates have chosen to work with children. We are aware of the awesome responsibility of guiding children through an exploration of their most valuable resources -- themselves! At Dance Associates, we believe that children can be taught a high level of awareness through our “Skilled Arts Program” (copyrighted curriculum). In this program, children develop awareness of themselves as physical, social, and creative beings; they develop awareness of themselves as organizers of experiences and as active participants in their environment. They learn what their bodies can do, how they are put together, and what strength and energy they have. As we guide children in their experiences of The Skilled Arts, we look for two important factors that tell us the children are growing -- joy and involvement. Our curriculum introduces concepts of the Skilled Arts as the children’s physical and mental capacities develop. Our developmental approach allows for long-term development of skills, and our special emphasis on creativity easily accommodates children entering the program at any age. The Instructor’s approach to teaching Dance Associates’ specially designed curriculum is what makes us unique. The curriculum balances Developmental Technique with Creative Skills to enrich the whole child’s perceptions of movement.

Our Instructors Our instructors are carefully selected from dedicated dancers and gymnasts, all of whom have previous teaching experience with children. An Instructor Trainer introduces, trains and certifies the instructors in Dance Associates’ “Skilled Arts Program”. We provide each instructor with our copyrighted manual designed especially for teaching your children, and the trainer works closely with them. They are monitored by Dance Associates’ staff so that the quality of the class is insured to be the best available.

All of our instructors meet the Department of Human Resources standards for staff qualification for child care. Instructors constantly upgrade their own training by taking regular classes. Parents may request specific background information on their child’s teacher by contacting our office.
